Black History Month Spotlight:
W. Anthony Jackson, MBA
Healthcare plays a vital role in South Carolina’s economy, and few leaders embody that connection between health, workforce, and community more clearly than Anthony Jackson.
With 35 years of experience in healthcare, Jackson currently serves as Senior Vice President, Service Lines and Institutes & Chief Community Officer at Prisma Health, the state’s leading healthcare provider. Healthcare is one of South Carolina’s largest employment sectors, providing stable, meaningful careers across clinical, technical, operational, and administrative roles.
Jackson emphasizes that strong healthcare infrastructure is also essential to economic development. Access to high-quality care helps attract businesses, supports workforce readiness, improves productivity, and fuels long-term growth. A healthy population, he notes, is foundational to a healthy economy.
Prisma Health operates 13 hospitals statewide and offers comprehensive care across nearly every medical specialty. Its nationally recognized Institutes in cancer care, heart and vascular care, orthopedics, sports medicine, and neurosciences are paired with deep investments in community health. Through initiatives such as Accountable Communities, AccessHealth, diabetes prevention programs, Healthy Start, and mobile health clinics, Prisma Health works to address social determinants of health and expand access across South Carolina.
In his dual role, Jackson oversees Prisma Health’s Service Line Institutes while serving as Chief Community Officer, bridging advanced clinical strategy with real-world community needs. He finds fulfillment in connecting healthcare innovation with everyday health realities, whether improving health literacy, expanding access points, or addressing chronic disease and preventive care.
Service remains central to his leadership. Jackson values collaboration with mission-driven organizations, mentoring students exploring healthcare careers, and working with businesses considering South Carolina as a destination. His advice to young people entering healthcare is simple and powerful: be fearless, lead with passion, and embrace the business side of healthcare. When compassion is paired with accountability and stewardship, the opportunity to make a lasting impact is extraordinary.
