Black History Month Spotlight:
Janet Foster-Whitley

During Black History Month, South Carolina Manufacturers and Commerce is proud to recognize leaders whose careers reflect excellence, innovation, and service across South Carolina’s economy. One such leader is Janet Foster-Whitley, whose nearly two decades in manufacturing and mobility highlight the impact of strong leadership in advanced industry.

As Senior Director of B2B Sales – Enterprise Dealer & North America Retreading at Michelin North America, Foster-Whitley plays a critical role in one of South Carolina’s most influential manufacturing employers. Since opening its first South Carolina facility in 1974, Michelin has helped transform the state’s industrial landscape, contributing more than $266 billion in cumulative economic impact. Today, the company operates 15 facilities statewide, employs nearly 10,000 South Carolinians, and contributes an estimated $8.2 billion annually to the state’s economy.

Beyond its economic footprint, Michelin continues to invest in advanced manufacturing technology, materials innovation, and workforce development, strengthening South Carolina’s competitiveness and the nation’s manufacturing capacity. The tire industry supports essential sectors including automotive, freight, agriculture, aviation, and public transportation, while reinforcing supply chain resilience across the country.

In her current role, Foster-Whitley leads tire sales to enterprise dealers, manages Michelin’s North American retread business, and oversees the Michelin Commercial Service Network, which provides critical services and retread solutions to fleet customers. What she enjoys most is leading teams that deliver value to customers while supporting safe, efficient mobility across industries.

Equally important to her career is mentorship and community engagement. Foster-Whitley has served as a mentor within Michelin and beyond, previously acted as Executive Sponsor of the Michelin Women’s Network, and contributed to education initiatives as a member of a School Improvement Council. Her leadership reflects a commitment to developing people and strengthening communities alongside business success.
