COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Manufacturers and Commerce (SCMC) will launch Blueprint 2036: A Roadmap for South Carolina’s Economic Future during the first stop of its statewide Vision and Voice Tour on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at noon in Lancaster.
Developed in partnership with Grant Thornton, Blueprint 2036 is a 10-year policy-based strategy designed to address emerging challenges, capitalize on new opportunities, and strengthen South Carolina’s economic competitiveness.
The strategy draws on economic research, national and international benchmarking, and input from business leaders, educators, policymakers, economic developers, and communities across the state to recommend practical actions for sustained economic prosperity over the next 10 years and beyond.
“Over the last decade, South Carolina has built one of the strongest business environments in the country, attracting record investment, creating good jobs, and unleashing prosperity across our state. But as our state continues to advance, new leaders emerge, and business evolves, now is the time to build on our momentum and set our sights on the future,” said SCMC President and CEO Sara Hazzard. “We are grateful to our members who lent their insight and resources to help shape this Blueprint and lay the groundwork for a new day in South Carolina. Together, these recommendations will position our state as the top destination for business and opportunity well into the future.”
The Blueprint’s recommendations focus on five priority themes:
- Modernize the Business Climate
- Build and Retain the Future Workforce
- Close the Infrastructure Gap and Secure Our Energy Future
- Enhance Opportunities for Rural South Carolina
- Compete in a High-Growth Economy

Following the Lancaster launch, SCMC will present Blueprint 2036 at eight additional stops across the state. Local chambers of commerce will host each stop, bringing business and community leaders together to discuss the recommendations and share the challenges and opportunities facing their communities.
Feedback gathered throughout the tour will help shape SCMC’s legislative agenda and advocacy priorities for the coming year.
The Vision and Voice Tour will include the following stops. Details for three additional stops will be announced soon. For more information and registration updates, visit myscmc.org/blueprint-tour.
