With the General Assembly mostly out of town for the summer, it’s a good time to get on the road and visit our members. Last week, I had the chance to stop by Sonoco and McCall Farms to see firsthand the great work they’re doing and chat about how we can keep South Carolina on the right track. I’m looking forward to more of these conversations throughout the summer and fall.
As you make plans for next week, don’t forget that runoff elections will take place on Tuesday, June 23. Let’s continue to make sure the business community’s voice is heard at the ballot box.
There is a lot happening across South Carolina, and we look forward to continuing to work alongside you to help shape what’s next.

1. SCMC Candidate Questionnaire: Attorney General, Agriculture Commissioner Run-Off
Before primary day, we asked candidates seeking open constitutional offices to answer a series of questions on issues most important to our members. Two of those races, Republican Attorney General and Republican Commissioner of Agriculture advanced to a run-off. Before you vote Tuesday, see their questionnaire responses here. Also, for those interested in the Republican Governor race, you can find video of our SCMC Gubernatorial Forum from April here.
2. Connect with South Carolina’s Future Workforce Through Tallo
Through SC Future Makers’ partnership with Tallo, employers can help students see what’s possible by participating in Real Careers, Real Journeys™, a virtual career conversation that connects industry professionals with classrooms. Students often have questions about careers but have never had the chance to speak with someone who actually does the job they’re interested in. By sharing your story, you can provide students with an authentic look at your career path, the work you do each day, and the skills that matter most. Sign up through Tallo’s Real Careers, Real Journeys™ Industry Volunteer page. Questions? Contact Elisabeth Kovacs at Kovacs@myscmc.org

Moderated by SCMC President & CEO Sara Hazzard, you won’t want to miss this powerhouse panel at the SCMC Energy Summit on August 4 in Columbia. Register today to reserve your seat.
4. SC Labor Productivity Among Nation’s Highest in 2025
South Carolina continues to lead the way. New data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows SC ranked third in the country for labor productivity growth in 2025, increasing 3.6% year over year. Only Alaska and Florida posted higher growth rates. Labor productivity measures the amount of goods and services produced by a workforce relative to the time and effort required to produce them.
