COLUMBIA, S.C. –South Carolina Manufacturers and Commerce President and CEO Sara Hazzard today released the following statement applauding the passage of the Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act (H. 3021):

“By passing this bill that reduces the regulatory burden businesses face, we boost our economy by encouraging employers to take risks that pay off: creating jobs, attracting investment, and driving innovation. That’s why the Small Business Regulatory Freedom Act was an SCMC priority, and that’s why smarter, commonsense reforms to our regulatory framework – that make it easier for businesses to do what they do best – will always be something we fight for. Thank you to the General Assembly, legislative leadership, and our members for getting this done.”

The bill reduces the regulatory burden on job creators by adding independent oversight to ensure regulations remain within statutory authority and are not outdated, increasing agency accountability for noncompliance, requiring legislative approval for proposed regulations with an estimated economic impact exceeding $1 million, and ending judicial deference to state agencies.
