This week on Member Monday, we’re highlighting one of our newest members, ARCO Design/Build, and the team behind their work across South Carolina.
With offices in Charleston and Greenville, ARCO has completed more than 130 projects across the state. The employee-owned company, ranked by Engineering News-Record as the nation’s #1 builder of distribution centers & warehouses and sixth-largest design-build contractor, works with businesses on production facilities, distribution centers, warehouses, and other industrial projects.
South Carolina has become an important part of ARCO’s growth. The state’s manufacturing sector, the strength of the I-85 corridor, and the Port of Charleston’s role as a logistics gateway continue to create opportunities for the types of projects the company specializes in. ARCO also credits much of its success to the relationships it has built with local subcontractors, town officials, economic development partners, and customers across the state.
Founded in St. Louis in 1992, ARCO has completed more than 7,500 design-build projects in over 400 cities. Even as the company has grown, its approach has remained the same. As a 100% employee-owned company, ARCO says that approach creates a culture of accountability and personal investment in every relationship, every detail, and every outcome.
The company’s design-build model brings planning, budgeting, due diligence, design, and construction together under one roof. Instead of managing separate teams, clients work with one company from concept through construction, with one budget, one contract, and one point of accountability throughout the project. That process helps identify potential challenges earlier and creates more certainty before construction begins.
Outside of work, ARCO’s South Carolina team stays involved in the communities where they live and work. The company’s annual Charity Pickleball Tournament brings together employees, clients, and community partners to support Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston and First Tee of Greater Charleston. Throughout the year, employees also volunteer with local organizations and community projects that support local families.
Looking ahead, ARCO sees opportunities in advanced manufacturing, logistics, build-to-suit development, upfits, facility expansions, and industrial outdoor storage projects as investment across South Carolina continues.
