This week on Member Monday, we’re spotlighting Boyd Jones of Pinnacle + Synovus, who was named SCMC’s 2026 Finance Professional of the Year at the South Carolina Workforce and Manufacturing Summit.
The award recognizes a finance professional whose leadership and expertise have strengthened their company’s financial performance and contributed to its success. For Jones, the recognition comes after 45 years in banking and a career built around relationships, teamwork, and service.
Jones got his start while he was in college, when Hugh Chapman, then Chairman and CEO of C&S National Bank, recruited him to work as a cashier and teller during the summer after his sophomore year.
“I admired Mr. Chapman and many of the banking leaders of that generation, and those early experiences inspired me to pursue a career in banking,” said Jones.
45 years later, Jones remains motivated by client relationships and teamwork.
“Banking is ultimately a team business, and I have always believed the best outcomes are achieved from a collaborative approach,” he said. “Helping clients achieve their goals and making a positive impact in the communities we serve continues to be deeply rewarding.”
His commitment to relationships and service has extended beyond banking. Jones has served South Carolina’s business community in a number of roles and played a key part in the merger of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance and South Carolina Chamber of Commerce that created SCMC.
Along the way, one piece of advice has stayed with him.
“Always keep learning, and never become complacent,” said Jones. “If you get knocked down, get up and keep moving forward.”
Outside of work, Jones says faith, family, and relationships remain at the center of his life. He serves at First Presbyterian Church, enjoys spending time with family and friends, supports Gamecock sports, and plays golf. He also credits his wife as an important partner throughout his career.
“My wife and I have always approached life and work as a team, and her guidance has been invaluable,” said Jones.
And after 45 years in banking, he’s still finding new things to learn.
“I’m a relatively new Mahjong player and enjoying the challenge of learning the game,” he said.
For Jones, his willingness to keep learning, along with a focus on relationships and teamwork, has remained a constant throughout his career.
